TU Wien (formerly Vienna University of Technology)

Atomic Institute of the Austrian Universities (Atominstitut)

Main Activity:

The group is specialized in magnetic and resistive measurements of all sort of superconducting materials (cuprates, iron-based superconductors, MgB2, Nb3Sn) in the form of single crystals, films or wires and tapes. The homogeneity of the superconducting properties is assessed by means of scanning Hall probe techniques to study current blocking mechanisms and percolation. The in-house research reactor is used for neutron irradiation, which introduces defects in the nano-structure of the superconductor. The resulting changes in the superconducting properties are investigated for improving the understanding of flux pinning and in view of the radiation hardness for use in fusion or accelerator magnets.
